voices for children bike ride a success
On September 7, more than 100 bicyclists took to the winding roads of central Massachusetts for the 10th
annual Voices for Children Bike Ride. They rode 50, 25, 10 or 5 miles with the goal of raising awareness and
money for the YWCA's Child Assault Prevention program and CASA Project. This year's event netted close to $9,
000 thanks to riders and their sponsors.
Students from Assumption College's Reach Out Center volunteered their time to run events and activities for
families including arts & crafts tables, games, and a moon walk.
Thanks again to the event sponsors: Assumption College, Charter Communications,
Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Smith 'n Jones, and Bicycle Alley. Other sponsors were: Lauring Construction
and Sheri Davis Web Design
The Voices for Children Bike Ride commemorates event founder Ann McCarron's 3,500-mile bike trek across
country to raise awareness about child sexual abuse. As a young child, Ann was sexually abused by her
pediatrician. It took her more than 20 years to break the silence. The Voices for Children Bike Ride is a
continuation of Ann's journey and her commitment to raising awareness of child sexual assault and creating a
community of caring and protective adults so children won't be afraid, embarrassed or ashamed to break the
silence.
